Dining establishments such as classic Austrian taverns, fine dining and international restaurants, fast food outlets, cafés, and bakeries have traditionally been very popular among both locals and visitors.

In 2014, there were around 9,500 classic taverns and 7,400 restaurants in the country. However, after the end of the pandemic, the number of dining establishments increased sharply. According to official statistics, there are now over 44,000 gastronomic establishments in Austria, with the majority concentrated in Vienna and other major cities such as Salzburg and Graz.
