Medical infrastructure
Not only educational institutions and old houses are the pride of the Alsergrund. A hospital and a children’s hospital are located in District 9 too.
- Central Vienna Clinical Hospital (Allgemeines Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien, AKN Clinic) is one of Austria’s leading medical institutions. The hospital was founded in 1693. Every year, about 1.5 million outpatients and more than 100,000 inpatients from all over the world visit the institution. It employs more than 9,000 people, 1,600 of whom are Austrian doctors;
- St. Anna Kinderspital was founded in 1837. A specialised oncology centre was added in 1978. The hospital has the country’s largest Institute for the Study of Childhood Cancer. Today, this hospital is one of the best in Austria for the diagnosis and treatment of haematological diseases.

The markets are open from 8:00 to 20:00 from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, and almost all stores are closed on Sunday. There are some supermarkets that are open.
